A Few Guesses on Breaking Bad’s Last Season

Breaking Bad’s fifth season is set to start in July. What stories will the writers decide to tell with the last 16 episodes? Here are a few general guesses:

1. Clean Up:
The first part of the season will focus on the aftermath of the fire in the Superlab and Gus’ assassination. Hank already guessed that a lab was underneath Lavenderia Brillante. And Hank already connected the laundromat to Gus Fring. Plus, Gus was killed in the room of a known Cartel associate.

It’ll be easy for the DEA to connect the dots, but they will incorrectly focus on what’s left of the Cartel as suspects, while Hank hones in on “Heisenberg” or the “WW” from Gale’s notebook.

Walt and Jesse will also have to do something about the security camera footage from the Superlab. Maybe they get it; maybe Hank gets to it first. (Some of the episodes in Season 4 showed Gus watching the security cameras on his computer in his office at Pollos Hermanos; the footage will probably be stored there).

2. Hank’s Death:
Hank’s going to make the final connection/realization. Maybe he gets to the security camera footage first. Either way, Hank is dying at the hands of Walt (completing his transformation to Evil Walt) at the end of the eighth episode (right at the break in the season).

3. Jesse’s Revenge:
Gus poisoned/killed the Cartel kingpins down in Mexico. Walt killed Gus. There aren’t any other big antagonists left alive, so the second half of the season will be Jesse vs. Walt.

Jesse will find out about Walt poisoning Brock. The writers will have to answer the question of how a grown man was able to make a child ingest poison. Jesse will probably also find out about Walt’s lack of action that led to Jane’s vomit death from season 2.

We’ve already seen that Jesse knows how to make meth all by himself. He no longer needs Walt. And since Walt went after Jesse’s loved-ones, he’ll return the favor. Walt’s family is in danger.

Look for the Whites to skip town at the hands of “The Disappearer” sans Walt (not enough money left for everyone to disappear).

4. The Return of Mike:
We last left Mike recuperating from gunshot wounds in makeshift triage in Mexico. His last loyalty was to Gus and we already saw Mike and Jesse form a bond in Season 4.

After crossing the border, look for Mike to team up with Jesse to take down Walt.

5. Cancer
A more aggressive version of Walt’s cancer will return.

Walt will be dying of cancer by the end of the show, similar to his predicament in the Pilot episode.

The kicker will be that his family (the alleged reason why he went into meth in the first place) will be gone. And he’ll be out of money, so he can’t get any treatment (unless his car wash has killer medical insurance). And Jesse and Mike are trying to kill him.

I can’t see Vince Gilligan letting Walt win in the end. Walt will have to pay for his sins.

And Jesse will probably be the new “Gus.”
